Breast Cancer Care WA is a grass-roots WA charity funded entirely through donations and fundraising in the community. Our specialist breast care nurses (sponsored by McGrath Foundation) and counsellors support people during their experience with breast cancer by providing practical, financial and emotional support.
About the role
Our Breast Care Nurses work as part of Breast Cancer Care WA’s Support Services Team to provide evidence based information and support to clients and their families living with a breast cancer diagnosis, and work in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team. The roles also contributes to promoting education and awareness about breast cancer and Breast Cancer Care WA’s support services. This is a part time role of 22.5hrs per week.
Key responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical advice, information and support to clients with breast cancer in accordance with evidence based guidelines across the continuum of care
- Identify and support clients at higher risk, or exhibiting high levels of distress at the time of admission to Breast Cancer Care WA and as required using a systematic evidence based approach to achieve appropriate and timely referrals to other services
- Collaborate with members of the clients’ multidisciplinary teams (MDT), Breast Cancer Care WA’s Support Services Team and relevant community service providers to coordinate the delivery of individualised breast cancer support services
- Act as a patient advocate within the MDT to facilitate a treatment approach that is appropriate to the client’s individual needs
- Coordinate education, awareness and promotion of Breast Cancer Care WA within the health sector
- Work with other Support Services Team Members to identify and address gaps in service provision

Skills and experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality patient care
- Registered Nurse
- Five (5) years post registration experience
- Three (3) years; experience as a breast care or oncology nurse
- Relevant post graduate qualifications in breast care nursing, oncology, or relevant experience & ability to complete qualification within 12 months
- Effective time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
- High level verbal and written communication skills
- Positive proactive attitude
- Demonstrated ability to work both as an independent practitioner and within a team setting environment
- Computer literacy
- Current WA driver’s license and reliable vehicle
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrated knowledge of the WA health care system and community support agencies
- Experience in the development and delivery of education programs to clients, carers, the community and other health professionals
- Experience using Salesforce CRM
