Meet our incredible volunteer, Cate!

Share

May 12-21 is National Volunteer Week, and what better way to celebrate than to profile some of the very special individuals who generously donate their time and skills to support our charity. Breast Cancer Care WA started out as a volunteer-run organisation, and has grown thanks to the passion and dedication of so many amazing individuals, just like Cate.

A mother of 3 small children, Cate was shocked when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 39 years old. During her 5-year journey through breast cancer, Cate was supported by our counsellors and connected with some wonderful friends through our support groups. As soon as she had recovered, she was determined to give back.

BCCWA was absolutely amazing – always happy to help. Their support groups and one-on-one counselling was amazing.

Says Cate

Cate’s energy and enthusiasm is contagious, and she has been involved in many fundraising events over the last 6 years. You might have seen her shaking a tin at Purple Bra Day, or helping out at Corporate Golf Day, the Wildcats Pink Game and Ascot Races, to name a few.

Her most memorable volunteering moment to date was when a group of boys, all around the age of 15, all donated $5 because one of their mums had breast cancer.

It’s always amazing to see the generosity of people when you’re shaking a tin in the city. It was very touching to see them support the charity and their friend.
