Joyce and Raelene’s head shave

Great friends Joyce and Raelene spend lots of time having fun together and on Friday 14th November the two will embark on yet another journey – a head shave in support of their close friend who is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Knowing how lucky they are to have the choice of having a full head of hair – these two fun ladies are supporting their girlfriend by joining in and choosing to shave off their hair and are getting friends and the community behind them to raise funds.

For those of us not game enough to lose our locks – why not take the opportunity to support these ladies instead who are keen to get the message out there, show their support and raise funds!

Joyce and Raelene’s head shave will be happening at the Osborne Park Bowling Club on Friday 14th November at 7pm.

Wheelbarrow Across Australia World Record Attempt

David Baird’s world record attempt will see him run from Perth to Sydney to raise $100,000 for the Breast Cancer Foundation of WA and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. Very familiar with the testing boundaries in the world of running, David envisages this adventure will be the most physically and mentally challenging of his life, with the five-month journey seeing him visit 73 towns and run a massive 4115km.

In preparation for the 30km per day slog, David ran daily and visited the gym a few times a week to build upper body strength to push the wheelbarrow.

“I did a lot of training around Lake Monger pushing the wheelbarrow and I get various responses from ‘you’re crazy’ to ‘good on you mate’. But I’m not embarrassed; it’s raising money for prostate cancer and breast cancer.”

David commenced this amazing journey on Sunday September 21 and we wish him all the best in his world record attempt!

Mount Kilimanjaro Climb - October 2008

Jane, Sandeep and Preet are tackling Africas’ highest peak to help raise awareness of breast cancer!

This adventure came about five years ago when Preet took her son, Sandeep, to Arusha, her home town in Africa. So inspired at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro at the tender age of 12 years old, Sandeep turned to his mother and said “one day when I’m 17, I’m going to climb that mountain!” Preet was keen to see this dream become a reality and with the support of Jane and her experience as a fitness trainer this dream is coming to fruition!

With Mount Kilimanjaro towering close to 6000m (only 2000m short of Everest) the climb will take seven days to ascend and descend. The team will take a photo when they are at the top to promote the breast awareness message!

With the trekking trio covering their own costs for the adventure, they are keen to support a cause that has touched all of their hearts. Their fundraising goal is set to raise a massive $10,000 for the Breast Cancer Foundation of WA, which they plan to achieve from donations and with a few events. So support this cause by clicking on the button below to make a donation.

Check out the blog to see where they are at with the climb preparations on http://www.climbkili.bigblog.com.au/index.do.

13 year old walks the Bibbulmun Track for breast cancer

At only 13 years of age, Philip Clegg from Scotch College has set himself the challenge to walk the whole Bibbulmun Track before his 14th birthday and while he is doing this he will also raise breast cancer awareness across WA and funds for the BCFWA.

After his own family’s experience with Philip’s auntie passing from breast cancer, Philip knows first hand how important it is to be breast aware and contribute funds to support those that are going through a breast cancer journey.

“All of my weekends and holidays are now taken up with this project, but it’s better than playing computer games,” said Phil.

Sponsored by Ranger Outdoors, Philip is walking 1000km before the end of December – much of this will be completed over the weekends and then a large protion over the school holidays.

Phil has set a goal of fundraising $10,000 so please support him and his huge efforts as it really is a massive feat for one so young to be so passionate about making a difference!
