Frequently Asked Questions

General

When is the official date of Purple Bra Day?
The official date for the event is Friday 17 June 2011.  However, you can hold fundraising activities or events any day that suits you.

What is Purple Bra Day all about?
2011 is the 9th year of Purple Bra Day in Western Australia.  The day is all about having fun, raising funds and showing that you care and are breast aware!  Individuals (females AND males) simply register to take part, a free purple bra fundraising kit is sent out with a one size fits all bra and the bra is worn OVER your clothes on Friday 17 June.

Help us “raise the bra” and reach our fundraising target of $300,000.  With the support of the Western Australian community and workplaces we believe we can reach this!

Why Purple?
Opened in 2000, Founder and Patron Ros Worthington OAM chose purple to represent BCCWA and differentiate from other breast cancer organisations. Pink is often associated with research, but here in WA purple represents emotional, practical and financial support.

With 1 in 9 women affected by the disease, BCCWA was able to provide assistance to over 3000 ladies in 2010 alone thanks to the generous support of the community donations.

How do I register to take part in Purple Bra Day?
A. Simply click on the “Register Now” link on the Purple Bra Day event page on the website and you will be taken to a secure registration page.  Or you can download the registration form and fax/email it back to us.

What should I do for Purple Bra Day?
Anything!  We encourage you to get creative - decorate your purple bra, dress up in purple, hold a morning tea, dare the CEO to wear the bra if enough money is raised, etc.

We provide you with the Purple Bra to be worn OVER your clothes, so all you need to do is strap it on and encourage everyone to dig deep and donate to you! You can raise even more funds with raffles, auctions and competitions!  See our website for more fundraising ideas.

What’s the cost?
It’s free to register and you will receive a fundraising kit including your one size fits all purple bra.  However, it is a fundraising event and the bra’s and postage do cost us so we hope that participants will set their fundraising targets high and get into the spirit of FUNdraising!

What does Breast Cancer Care WA do with the money raised from Purple Bra Day?
Purple Bra day is Breast Cancer Care WA’s largest annual fundraiser, raising over $280,000 in 2010!

The funds raised from Purple Bra Day 2011 will allow us to continue to provide personalized emotional, practical and financial support to women and their families affected by breast cancer.  This can be by way of counseling appointments, helping with the weekly cleaning services, dropping ladies to and from medical appointments, helping to pay household bills, support from our Breast Care Nurses and so much more.

All money raised in WA stays in WA.  In 2011 our fundraising target is $300,000!

How else can I get involved if I can't participate in Purple Bra Day?
If you aren't able to participate in a Purple Bra Day event or would prefer to support in other ways, then you can still make a donation.
