In March 2007, Breast Cancer Care WA and Steel Blue created the Purple Boot Brigade™.
$20 from the purchase of each pair of exclusive Steel Blue Purple Boots is donated back to Breast Cancer Care WA to create education and support programs across the nation.
To date, almost 19,000 pairs of boots are marching across Australia which has helped raise over $500,000.

Purple Boot Brigade achievements
Breast Cancer Care WA has always placed a strong emphasis on educating the community about breast cancer. With one in nine women being diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, early detection is the key to more effective treatment.
With the support of Steel Blue and donations received through the Purple Boot Bridge, following are some of the initiatives created to educate and support the nation.
Breast Cancer Click on Line Support Network
In June 2009, Breast Cancer Care WA and Edith Cowan University (ECU) received a $221,000 grant from the Australian Research Council to investigate and develop a new nat ional online support project providing professional advice to the community affected by breast cancer. This project is also co-funded with contributions from Steel Blue's Purple Boot Brigade partnership.
The project is a three year PhD driven investigation to determine whether the 'cluster-power' of social networking can be harnessed to build integrated and supportive online communities.
The Click is a place to connect with others affected by a breast cancer diagnosis, either as a patient, carer, family member, friend or supporter. Members can share their experiences through the online forum and personal blogs and help build a useful resource database of local services people affected by breast cancer may need.
In time, the new community will offer a professionally moderated forum for people to talk about their experiences and share their concerns with others who know what they're going through.
The ultimate aim of the project is to increase early detection, improve support services for those affected by breast cancer - especially those living in regional and rural areas - and enhance recovery rates.

Breast Cancer Awareness Learning Resource for Secondary School Students
Breast cancer affects women of all ages, including young women, so it’s never too early to start being breast aware and check your breasts regularly.
In conjunction with the Department of Education and Training and the WA Curriculum Council, Breast Cancer Care WA developed a free Breast Cancer Awareness Learning Resource for Secondary Schools Students.
The resource is available on line and provides high school students with information about breast awareness and strategies to support themselves and family members should they be affected by a breast cancer diagnoses.
Through the resource they will gain an understanding of breast cancer and the emotional states of others, how and where to find support and ways to care for someone with breast cancer.

Breast iQ test
In order to help improve the community's knowledge of breast cancer and to dispel outdated myths about the disease and its risk factors, we developed the 'Breast iQ' online quiz.
Over 3,400 people have now completed this quiz, not only helping with education, but providing Breast Cancer Care WA with statistics on the community’s beliefs about being ‘breast aware’. This information is invaluable moving forward with further education programs.
